Doone Valley campsite is a joy of a place, Caroline keeps the place nice and tidy and is chatty and friendly. Great for kids, although during the summer it can get busy with schools and scout groups. My only critique of Doone Valley Campsite is that its become a little expensive, but if you dont mind paying out a little extra for the basics, then its worth a visit.
Just on a general note, There are other choices to 'The Buttery' if you go there, the owners arn't really welcoming in the style you can expect from the rest of Exmoor people, its also pricey for the quality and quantity... The staghunters in Brendon is good, a warm welcome and well priced food. Also the Sandpipers a little drive out from Doone Valley to Countisbury hill is also a good bet for food and a warm welcome.

I would agree about the Doone Valley Campsite but would like to add... The Buttery is a seperate concern to that of the campsite and the many times we have eaten there we have found.. the owners are chatty and friendly and very kind, when it was cold outside we were lent shawls for our group. the pizzas are tasty and the ploughmans lunches are exquisit. The presentation of the food good. I would heartly say that to me personally the family that run the buttery are gems and we go back time and time again to save cooking at least one a day when we stay at cloud farm as the walk across the fields amongst the sheep is brill. ~The shepherdess drives a mean quad bike.. so do give it a try..
