Fisherground Campsite is set right in the heart of Eskdale, one of Cumbria's loveliest valleys. Here on the West side of the Lake District we get less rain and more sun than our famous cousins the other side of Scafell. In this quiet valley there is still the Peace and Tranquility that should be Lakeland - but rarely is in the bustling centres. Here there are still more sheep than people. Peace is the watchword on the Campsite too. We are a quiet family site and every effort is made to ensure silence after 10.30pm. As we don't take bookings, except for the electric hook ups, we look forward to welcoming you when you arrive.
A fantastic place to go. I was introduced to this campsite about 3 - 4 years ago, and well I fell in love. It is perfect for the family, as a couple or with a group of friends. I have had many an enjoyable night around the campfire with a few glasses of wine. I agree with the above comment about the local pub though !! Its not too bad though as people would normally sit outside during the day time so its nice enough to enjoy a spot of lunch and a cold drink.
fisherground campsite must be one of the best campsites around my friends family and myself have been going there for at least the last 18 years and Mick and Ali are the best owners so far we stopped going to the local pub a few years ago as the landlords idea of customer care is non existent and his face would curdle milk we now use the pub in the opposite direction the brook house inn its great and the food is very good to

18th June 2007A victim of it's own success!! My husband and I found this site about 5 years ago and have tried to keep it to ourselves - How selfish!
Fisherground has been featured in the Gardian and the Times listed in the best campsite articles, and quite rightly so. The location is superb and it does have a climate of it's own. Mick and Alison run a tight ship, making every effort to keep peace and quiet on the site, working extremly hard to cater for everyone, however it is very popular and many large parties gather at the weekends taking full advantage of the adventure playground for children.
I would recommend telephoning before setting out on Friday after work to check if the site is full.
There is a boot drier, which was essential on our last trip (June 10th -15th 2007)as it rained the entire time! The showers cost 50p and are HOT, I usually need at least £1.
Washers, driers and a freezer are also provided. There is a pub 5 minutes walk away, The George - a lovely establishment, however the landlords face can turn your beer flat!! On average we visit at least 5 times each year and have yet to see him smile, or the same staff working behind the bar. The Bower house is approximatley 15mins walk towards Santon Bridge and Boot which has 2 Pubs is approx 40mins in the other direction - neither of which I would recommend walking back in the dark.
There are many great walks which are easy to access from the site, and La Ratty train stops on the site which is great fun.
I have great affection for Fishergroud and Mick and Alison are dedicated and work hard to keep the facilities and campers in order. Hope you enjoy! but please don't tell your friends!!!
